Promoting the art of keeping pigeons, the world's oldest hobby.
Raising pigeons for any reason can be traced to before written history. Pigeons have been a source of food, fertilizer and genetics study for a very long time. Keeping pigeons is a past time that can give a person an education in animal husbandry, responsibility for another life and many other worth while things.
The East Valley Pigeon Barn has been a dream of mine since I first started raising pigeons. Originally I wanted something like Wendell Levi's squabbing farm but with performance and show pigeons instead of squabbing pigeons. I have something much smaller and I am blessed with what I have.
My first loft was built in the early 1970's. It was an ever progressing building project. My current loft was started when I bought my current home in May of 2005. As with many pigeon fanciers, my loft is a work in progress. I am also designing special loft fixtures and individual breeding pens. The breeding pens are being designed for space efficiency. My personal story is on the last page of this site.
Personal Statement
Pigeons have given me much joy, happiness and fulfillment in my life. I believe the hobby of keeping pigeons is something wonderful and it is an educational and fulfilling hobby for both young and old from all walks of life.
The advent of technology however has drawn attention away from the world of pigeon keeping and year after year, the pigeon fancy as a whole grows smaller. It is sad that the worlds oldest hobby could possible be no more. I want to see that this does not happen. So having said that I will make this statement. While alive and of sound mind, I will promote the hobby of pigeon keeping and show others it's value.
Here is the Mission
To promote the pigeon hobby as a whole is my main mission. Performance pigeons, show pigeons or utility pigeons I promote them all as they are all important in some way to someone in the fancy. I will help anyone seeking pigeon related information as best I can as long as it benefits the hobby.
In Addition
I also believe that clubs in the fancy should focus on educating those not in the fancy AND have an aggressive junior member program in place and functioning. I also include in my mission the solicitation of national and local clubs to encourage dedication to their respective junior programs or the starting of one if one is not in place.
